The Color of Love

Tulips, table and couch. 2012

A recent gift  for us on Valentines day, these were. Truly a gift of grace, from a dear friend.

We enjoyed how they “wilded” and waved, so floppy, yet never losing their poise.  Their redness was the sort of red that demands your attention, pure and hot, and unyielding under scrutiny. The leaves, green drapes around the stems like Victorian collars hugging too-thin necks, seemed worn like limp shields in their fight against time and exhaustion.

The whole ensemble, has alas, succumbed. They were gallant to the end.
